Leah Shearer is the Site Coordinator at LaVenture Middle School.  She returns to LaVenture after serving as the Americorps Site Coordinator there during the 2018-2019 school year.  Previous work with youth include Leah’s role as a social circus facilitator with the nonprofit CircusAid. There she provided workshops and movement exploration to kids experiencing refugee status. This work combined exercises such as, juggling, diabolo, and acroyoga to stimulate presence of mind, fine and gross motor skills, body-awareness, and teamwork, bringing laughter and a sense of accomplishment to the participating youth. Engaging kids around joy, play, and their unique interests is a passion of Leah’s, and she brings this to her work at LaVenture. Leah focuses on healthy conflict resolution, LGBTQ+ issues, racial equity, and allyship when providing supports to students.

In her free time, Leah enjoys woodworking in her garage, mending old clothes, and spending time with her husband and their hound dog Finn.
