This year, Communities In Schools of Whatcom-Skagit was fortunate to partner with Cornwall Church in an extraordinary effort to support students across 15 schools. Recognizing the critical importance of meeting students’ basic needs, Cornwall Church led a remarkable Basic Needs Drive, supplying hundreds of healthy snacks, hygiene products, and other essential items to stock our Site Coordinators’ Basic Needs Closets.
Thanks to Cornwall Church’s generosity, our Site Coordinators were able to fill these closets with the necessities that students often lack, ensuring that every child has access to items that support their well-being. From healthy snacks that keep students energized throughout the day, to hygiene products that promote self-care and dignity, these resources have had a tremendous impact.
By having these resources readily available, our Site Coordinators have been able to start the school year off right, offering support to students’ needs from day one. Whether it’s offering a nutritious snack to a hungry student or providing essential hygiene supplies, these contributions have helped create a more inclusive and supportive school environment.
This partnership exemplifies the power of community involvement in helping students overcome barriers. Cornwall Church’s dedication to supporting local schools has not only filled our closets but also filled hearts with hope. Their efforts remind us that when communities come together to support students, we create pathways to success both in and out of the classroom.
