This is a space for Communities In Schools of Whatcom-Skagit to recognize the amazing people and organizations that have made a significant impact on our community through collaboration with CISWS.
Northwest Skate Collective

Project Neighborly
The City of Bellingham and Whatcom Community Foundation awarded Communities In Schools of Whatcom-Skagit and Northwest Skate Collective a collaborative Project Neighborly grant with the sole purpose of bringing our community together. We saw that the Bellingham DIY Skatepark was in desperate need of some TLC so we brought the community together for a Build, Clean & Repair Day!

Lumber being delivered by Bellingham Millworks the day before the event. They generously donated extra wood in support of the event.
Activities throughout the day included youth-centered feature building so kids gains hands-on learning experience supervised by experienced adults, as well as a grip tape art table.

Seeing how the community came together to improve a public space that will be enjoyed by hundreds, if not thousands of people has been nothing short of inspiring. I feel blessed to have played a role in this and collaborated with such great people.
Nathan Barber, CISWS Director of Development & Engagement

Throughout the day about 50 people came by to enjoy refreshments, eat Costco pizza, build, repair, clean, skate and connect with their community.

Bellingham Fire Department Station 3 made a surprise visit to the event and engaged with the kids, letting them see all the ins and outs of the fire truck and ambulance.

Thank you to Bellingham FD Station 3!
