When I reflect on Bellingham High, that chant resonates in my ears. There is a very supportive community here at BHS, and I learned that quickly coming in on my first year as Site Coordinator. During our Welcome Back assembly in the first week of school, all staff were called down to the main floor in the gym where I was swiftly huddled and found myself staring back at the thousand-some students huddling together, arm in arm, singing our chant with us. It was amazing to see so much of the student body showing school spirit. Now, it is just weeks away from second semester, and I find myself considerably fortunate to be here. I’ve come to know students better, and it wouldn’t have been without managing our tutoring center after school, partnering with administration and student support services, co-advising our multicultural club known as I.A.M (Inspiring A Movement), Graduation Coaching, and assisting with M.A.D-H.O.P.E, the youth suicide prevention team, Making A Difference, Helping Other People Everywhere. I have also had a great time coaching our boys’ JV tennis team and assisting with the boys’ varsity, and I can’t wait to for the girls’ season to start! Making a difference in the lives of these young and capable adults is indescribably rewarding, and I seek nothing more than to help them grow as individuals. After fighting to build a solid foundation this past semester—but succeeding!—I hear the echo of our chant just around the corner in the hallway, whispering, welcoming the oncoming roll of second semester. It’s going to be a busy one, for sure, but I’m looking forward to it. Go Raiders!
