For the past few weeks I have been working at Kulshan middle school in the LAUNCH program. This is an extended learning program that is still very new to Kulshan culture. I am continually offering support and ideas, and I have helped create a method of tracking student’s goals in the program. My experience so far with this program has proven to me that this African proverb holds truth, “It takes a village to raise a child.” This is true because of the great efforts I see from the faculty at Kulshan collaborating together and with community partnership, like myself with CIS, in LAUNCH to create a program that creates independent and strong learners. My time here has been brief but I personally have witnessed transformation from students. It’s amazing! When I met one student in particular I observed that they were extremely shy and undetermined when it came to school. However after weeks of working with their peer leaders, the faculty, and working with me forming goals, this student has radical transformed. Today in LAUNCH they were smiling, actively working on their assignments and interacting with others in a very positive manner. When I checked in with them I was so impressed! Words truly don’t give their transformation justice.
