Starting this year, we are encouraging all of the Graduation Coaches and their mentees to create Edmodo accounts as a way for them to communicate directly that we can still monitor. Although some matches are still dependent on me to relay messages and last minute schedule changes, there are matches who are effectively relaying supportive messages, recording goals, and discussing schedules through their Edmodo group page. This week when I went to check on a match in the library after school they were nowhere to be seen. I had talked with the student earlier in the day and he told me he would be there, and I had no reason to doubt that his Grad Coach would show up. After a few moments of panic thinking that I had failed to remind them, I decided to go back to my office to make sure I hadn’t received a message. Sure enough the student had sent a message on Edmodo stating that he had a meeting with one of his teachers (one of his goals for the week!) after school and that he would like to meet with his Grad Coach a half an hour later than normal. His Grad Coach had responded that it was no problem and praised him for following through on the plan they created together.  I am excited to see more matches take advantage of this tool!
