CISWS is fundraising to expand into the Mount Baker School District. Donate today!

On Wednesday, November 20th I had the privilege to award 12 mentees in the Peer Mentoring Program at Sehome High School with gift bags for completing the Learning Center Challenge.

CIS teamed up with the coordinator of the Sehome Learning Center (an afterschool homework and tutoring center held in the Sehome library) to encourage the peer mentees to utilize the academic resources at their disposal. Mentees had to attend the learning center for a total of 540 minutes to receive a gift bag of healthy snacks and a coffee house gift card. One student who received this award, a freshman named Evan*, admitted that he started going to the Learning Center so he could earn the prize.

Now that the challenge is over Evan continues to go to the Learning Center because he knows it is the best place to get his homework completed! This challenge was a success, and I look forward to seeing great results with the next grade-based challenge we kicked off this week!
